BIG BUNNY

If you haven’t seen Matthew McConaughey’s movie “Fool’s Gold” then you may not have the perfect imagery in mind while reading this post, but left to your own imagination it’ll be close.

Last night we weighed anchor and went to town in search of a place for dinner, internet, and, of all random things, some powdered sugar.  We scored on all three.

When we came back to the boat we discovered a boat had set anchor just in front of us and was now perched directly over our anchor.  Not really a problem as you are never directly over your anchor but far behind it pushed by the breeze and current.  It is a problem however should you want to pull up the anchor and set sail.  To do this you pull the boat directly over the top of the anchor and pull it directly up and out of the sandy bed you had previously buried it in.

The next morning when we decided to leave and the little sailboat was still there and the owners were not—this of course presented a slight problem.  Unless that is you are a Skillman and you have watched the movie, “Fool’s Gold” several hundred times.

Mark donned his scuba gear and covertly swam directly beneath the vacated and offending sailboat and wiggled the anchor loose like a small child’s tooth.  Then, in a scene strait out of “Fool’s Gold” he bunny hopped the thing from out beneath the boat and closer to ours where we could ultimately weigh anchor and sail off.

Of course I didn’t get any pics.  However the best part of the story is that as soon as Mark surfaced and tossed his dive gear onto our boat the owners of the little boat returned in their dingy, stowed their stuff and sailed off.

No need for the bunny hop below.

But amusing nonetheless.

  1. Loving these updates! Here's a sailing joke for Sev:

What does Captain Jack Sparrow use to cook?

    Pyrex of the Caribbean!
